Couples Therapy

“If soulmates do exist, they’re not found. They’re made.” - Michael, The Good Place

Blending the lives of two fully formed, three dimensional human beings will inevitably come with some challenges. Choosing to build a life together is just that: a choice. Whether you’re seeking couples therapy, marriage counseling, or relationship counseling, healthy relationships aren’t found, they’re made.

Signs you may benefit from couples therapy:

  • You keep having the same argument over and over

  • Communication frequently turns into conflict heavily featuring defensiveness, criticism, or shutting down

  • You feel more like roommates than partners

  • Major life transitions are putting a strain on the relationship

  • Intimacy has decreased

  • Trust has been broken

  • You’re not experiencing any issues currently, but want to master communication skills as a preventative measure

What happens in couples therapy?

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach for couples. Your sessions will be tailored to your specific relationship needs.

In our first session, we will go over your relationship history, what’s bringing you in to therapy at this time, and what your goals are.

After one or two couples sessions, we will break off to do individual appointments where we can explore your unique context and learn more about where you’re coming from and how you became who you are today.

After this we will continue with couples sessions, focusing on your presenting problem and your goals. We will identify and track the patterns that keep you stuck, develop new ways of communicating and deeper empathy for each other, build emotional connection and trust, and create lasting change.

I am trained in a variety of couples therapy models and use a hybrid of EFT, PACT, and Gottman.

  • Communication difficulties

  • Patterns of resentment

  • Unmet emotional needs
